The rhythmakers

The Rhythmakers led by Sinclair Ang is a collective of musicians who play music from the golden era of Swing. With a focus to bring jazz back to its roots as dance music, they play in a style that swings it for Lindy Hoppers. The collective works closely with the performers from Jazz Inc, under Sinclair’s artistic direction, to create integrated performances in the style of the early jazz entertainers where the dancers performed to the bands of the day.
The current line-up of the collective includes: Liu Yonglun (Guitar), Masashi Sasaki (Bass), Amanda Lee (Keys), Rachma Lim (Keys), Khoo Shenen (Drums), Takeshi Nishimura (Trumpet), and Sinclair Ang (Vocals).
Other musicians who have performed with The Rhythmakers in the past include: Christy Smith (Bass), Rick Smith (Guitar), Darryl Ervins (Drums), Mei Sheum (Keys), Shawn Letts (Sax), Schmil Berniker (Sax), Andrew Lim (Guitar), Aaron James Lee (Drums), Aya Sekine (Keys), Arthur Wiyono (Bass), Raf Mahmood (Drums), Eugene Chew (Bass), Lester Ang (Sax), Pongthipok Sootthipong a.k.a. Tete Saxman (Sax), Kaz Hiramatsu (Trumpets).
On March 21, we also live streamed for the 1st time, in lieu of postponing Marchin’ & Swingin’ our monthly socials with the band. You can check out the Big Apple Contest song and routine here.
The Rhythmakers are available for performances with or without the dancers for weddings, festivals, corporate and public events. Sinclair also conducts lecture-demos to bring jazz music and dance education to the young and old alike.
